Nikolay Andreevich Shelyuto (1906–1984) is a world-renowned Ukrainian landscape painter whose works have been presented at leading international auctions and are highly prized by collectors. Known for his exquisite portrayal of nature, expressive brushwork, and lyrical realism, he remains a major figure of Odessa painting and southern Ukrainian art.

Shelyuto’s art is distinguished by sensitive color harmonies, atmospheric light, and a devoted attention to the landscape genre. His open-air sketches and plein air works often capture the serene beauty of coasts, countryside, gardens, and quiet country roads. His works are admired for their simplicity, refinement, and ability to evoke mood and place.

Born on February 22, 1906 in the village of Glukhovka, Gomel region, B., Shelyuto began his artistic studies in 1925 at the Odessa Polytechnic of Fine Arts (later the Odessa Art Institute), where his teachers included P. Volokidin and T. Fraerman. His first personal exhibition occurred while still a student, in his fourth year at the institute. From then on he regularly participated in personal, regional, and republican exhibitions.

Shelyuto was a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR and was honored as an Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR. He taught painting and drawing at the Odessa State Art School for many years (from 1937 to 1967). During World War II, he served in the Red Army, returning to Odessa in 1944. He was awarded the Order “Badge of Honor” among other medals.

He passed away on February 6, 1984 in Odessa. His works are preserved in Ukrainian museums — in Odessa, Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, and Chernivtsi — and in private collections both in Ukraine and abroad. Regularly presented at international auction houses, Nikolay Shelyuto’s paintings remain in demand for their artistic excellence, cultural resonance, and timeless lyrical beauty.

FAQs

What does “Sold – One-of-a-Kind Piece” mean?

It means the original painting has been sold and no reproductions are available. Each artwork is unique and only exists in a single copy.

What does “Author's Repetition Available” mean?

It means the original painting has been sold, but the artist can create a new original based on the same idea and composition.

An Author's Repetition is not a print or copy — it's a new, hand-painted artwork by the same artist, with minor differences that reflect the natural process of painting.
