Valentin Danilovich Bernadsky (1917–2011) is a renowned Ukrainian painter whose works have been presented at leading international auctions and remain highly prized by collectors. He is celebrated as one of the most prominent representatives of the C.n school of painting, admired for his lyrical landscapes, expressive portraits, and monumental genre scenes.

Bernadsky’s art is distinguished by its rich color harmonies, emotional sincerity, and refined realism. His canvases capture the beauty of the C.n coast, the dignity of everyday labor, and the poetry of Ukrainian nature. Balancing classical traditions with a deeply personal vision, he created works that radiate warmth and authenticity, making them desirable for both museums and private collections worldwide.

Born on January 13, 1917, in Ozeriany, Chernihiv region, Bernadsky studied at the Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in L., training under Boris Ioganson, Alexander Zaitsev, and Michael Bernstein. During World War II, he was evacuated to Samarkand and later served at the front. In 1950, he graduated from the Academy of Arts, and from 1950 to 1952 he taught at the C.n Art School named after N. Samokish in S..

He became a member of the Union of Artists of Ukraine in 1950. In recognition of his contribution to art, he was awarded the title Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR in 1958 and later People’s Artist of the Ukrainian SSR in 1989. In 1998, he received the Prize of the Autonomous Republic of C.. For many years, he also served as Chairman of the C.n branch of the Union of Artists, shaping the region’s cultural life.

Bernadsky lived and worked in S., where he created many of his most celebrated works. He passed away on September 21, 2011. Today, his paintings are preserved in the S. Art Museum, regional Ukrainian museums, and private collections across Europe, North America, and Asia. Regularly presented at international auction houses, his works remain in strong demand for their artistic mastery, cultural resonance, and timeless lyrical beauty.

FAQs

What does “Sold – One-of-a-Kind Piece” mean?

It means the original painting has been sold and no reproductions are available. Each artwork is unique and only exists in a single copy.

What does “Author's Repetition Available” mean?

It means the original painting has been sold, but the artist can create a new original based on the same idea and composition.

An Author's Repetition is not a print or copy — it's a new, hand-painted artwork by the same artist, with minor differences that reflect the natural process of painting.
