The oil painting on cardboard titled "The Winter Morning Begins" captures the serene and poetic essence of a new day unfolding in a winter landscape. The scene is bathed in the warm glow of the rising sun, illuminating the sky with a breathtaking gradient of golden yellows, deep oranges, and soft pinks that transition seamlessly into the rich purples and blues of the land below. The contrast between warm and cool tones creates a harmonious balance, evoking a sense of quiet anticipation and tranquility. In the foreground, the snow-covered ground is depicted with bold, expressive strokes of deep purples and blues, hinting at the crisp chill of early morning. The textured impasto technique brings depth and movement to the snow, making it appear almost tangible, as if one could feel the cool crunch beneath their feet. The artist's choice of colors suggests the reflection of the dawn light, where patches of green and violet blend together, enhancing the atmospheric effect. To the right, a cluster of bare trees stands tall, their branches reaching skyward, silhouetted against the fiery hues of the morning sky. The dark, earthy tones of the trees create a striking contrast against the radiant backdrop, emphasizing their intricate forms. The play of light and shadow on the branches adds an element of depth, making them appear almost sculptural. The presence of these trees suggests resilience, standing firm against the cold winter air as the promise of a new day unfolds. Beyond the trees, the landscape gently slopes down toward a partially frozen river or lake, its surface reflecting the mesmerizing colors of the sky. The artist skillfully captures the interplay of light on water, with shimmering golds and purples blending seamlessly, giving the impression of gentle ripples breaking the surface. The water extends toward the horizon, where a distant cityscape emerges, its dark silhouettes barely discernible against the glowing sky. This subtle detail adds a sense of scale and narrative, suggesting the presence of life beyond the stillness of the foreground. The sky itself is a masterpiece of color and movement. The brushstrokes used to render the clouds create a sense of dynamism, as if the morning light is gently sweeping across the heavens, chasing away the lingering darkness of the night. The gradation from fiery oranges and yellows to cooler pinks and lavenders lends an ethereal quality to the scene, reinforcing the theme of transition and renewal.
