Vasily Ignatievich Nepiypivo (1916–2007) is a world-renowned Soviet-Ukrainian painter and graphic artist whose works have been presented at leading international auctions and are admired by collectors for their lyrical landscapes, still lifes, and refined painterly lyricism. Known especially for his sensitive perception of nature and his ability to evoke mood through light, color, and composition, Nepiypivo occupies a significant place in the Ukrainian landscape tradition.

Nepiypivo’s art is distinguished by its harmonious tonalities, poetic observation, and a serene mood. He often avoided human presence in his compositions, preferring nature’s own voice—quiet ponds, spring floods, water reflections, birch trees by rivers, calm bays—elements that combine to evoke peace, melodicness, and a contemplative atmosphere. His still lifes and landscapes are celebrated for their subtlety, refined feeling for color, and emotional sincerity.

Born on December 28, 1916 in the village of Kamenka, Poltava province (Dikan district), Ukraine, Nepiypivo received formal art training at the Kharkov Art Studio. He served in the Great Patriotic War and was awarded the Order of the Red Star among other honors. In the post-war years, Nepiypivo contributed significantly to the restoration and design of Kiev, including designing aspects of the rebuilt city. Early in his career he painted in many genres, including portraits of political figures, but after an incident with a public display, he largely abandoned the portrait genre in favor of landscapes and still lifes. From 1951 onwards he participated in regional, republican, all-Union, and international exhibitions. In 1980, a personal exhibition was held in Kiev. In 1982 he was awarded the title People’s Artist of the USSR. He lived and worked in Kiev, and his works are preserved in Ukrainian museums and private collections both in Ukraine and abroad.
