Karp Demyanovych Trokhymenko (1885–1979) is a world-renowned Ukrainian painter and educator whose works have been presented at leading international auctions and remain highly prized by collectors. A pillar of 20th-century Ukrainian art, he is admired for powerful genre scenes, poetic landscapes, and a refined realist language grounded in academic mastery.

Trokhymenko’s paintings unite compositional clarity with luminous color and an affirming, humanistic tone. From historical subjects and “Shevchenkiana” themes to vistas of the Dnipro and rural Ukraine, his canvases balance narrative scope with lyrical observation—qualities that continue to resonate with museums and private collectors alike.

Born on October 25, 1885 in Sushchany, Kyiv region, Trokhymenko studied at the Kyiv Art School (1902–1910, with interruptions) and at the Higher Art School of the Imperial Academy of Arts in St.P. (1910–1916), where his mentors included Mykola Samokysh. Beginning in the 1920s, he taught at the Kyiv Art School (1926–1933) and later at the Kyiv Art Institute (1933–1974), becoming Professor of Painting in 1939. He was also a member of the Association of Artists of Red Ukraine (AKhChU) between 1926 and 1931.

Official recognition followed throughout his career: People’s Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1944) and the Taras Shevchenko State Prize (1969), among other state honors. He exhibited widely from 1918, with a personal exhibition in Kyiv in 1968. Trokhymenko died on October 1, 1979 in Kyiv; his legacy is preserved in major Ukrainian museums and important private collections.
