The oil painting on cardboard titled "Walking through the City Streets" immerses the viewer in the atmosphere of a quiet European coastal town, bathed in the golden light of late afternoon. With expressive brushwork and a warm, romantic palette, the artist captures a timeless moment that invites the viewer to pause and savor the charm of everyday life against the backdrop of historic architecture and softly rippling waters. The composition centers on a row of weathered buildings painted in warm terracotta, ochre, and faded rose tones. These structures, with their textured facades and distinctive windows, suggest centuries of stories layered in stucco and stone. Their irregular silhouettes and variety of rooftop lines create a rhythm of verticality, softened by the hazy blur of distant towers and rooftops behind them, rendered in neutral browns and muted grays. The sky above is a clear, luminous blue, offering a striking contrast to the earthy tones below and amplifying the painting’s sense of light and openness. In the foreground, the canal glistens with reflections of both the buildings and the sky, rendered in deep greens and gentle highlights of turquoise and white. The surface of the water is broken only by the subtle ripples of gentle movement, evoking the stillness of a moment just before sunset. Several boats are docked along the stone edges—some with sails, others simple rowboats—painted with just enough detail to give them personality without disturbing the overall impressionistic quality of the scene. At the heart of the urban life depicted in this work are the small human figures scattered along the waterfront. They walk, converse, and linger, providing scale and a sense of daily rhythm. The figures are painted in silhouette-like gestures, their anonymity allowing viewers to project their own narratives onto them. Whether tourists or locals, each person adds to the quiet energy of the setting—an energy that is relaxed, contemplative, and steeped in beauty. The architectural details are handled with sensitivity and spontaneity. While the lines are loose and expressive, there is a clear respect for the shapes and proportions of the old-world buildings. Arched windows, wooden shutters, decorative iron railings, and textured roof tiles are all suggested with a painterly touch that leans toward impressionism rather than strict realism.
