About the artist: Boris Stepanovich Petrov was born on July 10, 1910 in Orel. After graduating from a nine-year school in L. in 1929, he worked as a carpenter in Stroytrest. In 1931-1933 he studied at the Faculty of Painting of INPII - LIZHSA (did not graduate). In 1933-1941 he worked as a graphic designer in Gorkomiso. At the same time he worked creatively, mainly in the landscape genre. In the second half of the 1930s, Boris Petrov participated in a number of exhibitions of L. artists, at which he exhibited 17 landscapes [2].

A participant in the Great Patriotic War, in 1941 he volunteered for the front. Until 1945 he fought on the L. front, was awarded medals "For the Defense of L.", "For Victory over Germany." [3] In 1943-1945 he participated in exhibitions of artists of the L. Front [4]. In 1945 he was seconded from a military unit to the Museum of the Defense of L., where he worked as an artist for about a year [2].

Later, after demobilization, Boris Petrov worked as an artist in Lenizo, in the creative group of the Combine of Painting and Design Arts of the L. Branch of the KhF RSFSR. In 1960, based on the results of the exhibitions, he was accepted as a candidate member of the L. Union of Artists, in 1965 he was transferred to the L. Union of Artists, continued to regularly participate in exhibitions of L. artists, including exhibitions of veterans of the Great Patriotic War. In 1955 he visited the Caucasus for the first time. From that time until the end of his life, the mountains of the Caucasus and the mountain landscape became not only the main theme of BS Petrov's work, but also changed his way of life. At the age of forty-five, he mastered mountaineering and slalom, lived and worked alone for months in the mountains.

Among the works created by the artist are landscapes "Tugs", "Gulf of Finland", "Bunker" [4] (all 1944), "Windy Day" (1946), "Bird cherry in bloom" (1953), "Kirovsky Prospect" [5] ( 1958), “In the Spring at the Summer Garden”, “Anchorage of Barges” [6] (both 1959), “At Night at Terskiy Peak”, “Cheget” [7] (both 1961), “Elbrus” [8] (1962), "Moonlight Silence" [9], "New Year's Eve in the Mountains" (both 1970), "Holiday Lights" (1961), "Dawn", "The Weather Goes Down" [10] (both 1975), "The Mystery of the Mountain Night" (1978 ), "My wintering" [11] (1980) and others. Petrov painted many canvases, creating a whole picturesque suite of mountain peaks, varied and outlandish in color. The color and light in the highlands is different from what the eye is accustomed to under normal conditions. It is no coincidence that at the artist's exhibitions, disputes about the unusual coloring of a particular landscape flared up [12].

Exhibitions of the artist's works were held in 1960 in Nalchik, in 1963 [13] (House of Culture named after Lensovet) and 1975 (House of Culture named after Gaza) in L.. They were covered by newspapers [14], stories about the 1963 exhibition were shown on L. (May 11, 1963) and Central (May 20, 1963) television [15].

He died in 1981 in L..

BS Petrov's works are in museums and private collections in R., Japan and other countries. At the turn of the 1980s and 1990s, the works of Boris Petrov as part of expositions of works by L. artists were presented to European audiences at a number of foreign exhibitions [16] [17] [18].
