The oil painting on Canvas titled "On the Dining Table" presents a vivid and tactile celebration of nature’s abundance, arranged with care and harmony on a white cloth that seems to glow under gentle natural light. The composition immediately draws the viewer into a still life scene filled with ripe, vibrant produce—fruits and vegetables rendered with realism and a painter’s tender observation of texture, light, and form. At the center of the composition is a robust glass jar, its dark green hue and reflective surface suggesting it once held something preserved—perhaps a memory or a season’s harvest now enjoyed long past its time. This jar, silent and stoic, anchors the composition among the organic forms surrounding it. Next to it, and arranged in an almost semi-circle, lie various vegetables and fruits: lush red apples with their smooth, waxy skins catching the light; firm yellow and green bell peppers with irregular curves; round tomatoes blushing in hues of yellow, orange, and red; and even a small watermelon, its green rind painted with deep, shadowed creases that invite the viewer to reach out and touch. To the side, a small bundle of red chili peppers adds a dynamic stroke of intensity. Their bright, saturated red color and elongated, twisting forms inject movement into an otherwise grounded composition. The peppers rest effortlessly on the white tablecloth, their natural disorder providing contrast to the otherwise carefully grouped arrangement. Fresh greens, possibly basil or sorrel, cascade from the edge of the table in soft, leafy strokes, balancing the deeper shadows with a fresh splash of life. Each element on the canvas is lovingly painted, with brushwork that shifts between smooth, blended passages and more textured, impasto strokes where the paint rises to echo the richness of the subjects. The fabric of the tablecloth beneath it all serves as both canvas and context—folded and slightly wrinkled, its cool tones contrast with the warm palette of the produce, giving the composition both depth and rhythm.

About the artist: Honored Artist of Ukraine, Honored Artist of the Autonomous Republic of C., painter, member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine Born September 23, 1923 in the Oryol region of R. in the village of Rechitsa. He spent his childhood in Balaklava. Even before the war, as a barefoot boy, he ran along the streets of Balaklava with his friends, fished himself and watched the fishermen on their boats... All these bright childhood memories were imprinted in the heart of the future artist. Balaklava was a special theme in the work of Zinovy Ivanovich. The then very young Filippov was greatly impressed by the work of Ivan Kuprin and Alexander Green, outstanding prose writers who worked in Balaklava. Green's romantic images were embodied in the artist's work. His childhood in Balaklava did not last long. And soon the Filippov family returned to M.. There Zinovy Ivanovich studied at an art school. Then the next (difficult and terrible) period of his life began - the Great Patriotic War. In 1941, Filippov turned 18, so he went to the front. He was a machine gun company commander. Miraculously survived... After one of the battles, he, almost the only survivor, was found among a pile of bodies by... a horse. The smart animal did not leave the living man until Zinovy Ivanovich was saved by workers of a field hospital. Many of the artist's works are dedicated to horses. Filippov loved these amazing animals. And perhaps there is a certain sign of fate in this, because Philip, translated from Greek, means "loving horses." Filippov's painting is based on impressionism. But his impressionism is unusual - it is a symphony of color. Each picture of Zinovy Ivanovich breathes, lives. His canvases are small worlds, frozen in time and space, but not immobilized, unlike photographs. The sun's rays play on the green waves of Balaklava Bay ("Morning", Balaklava, 2003). Scarlet poppies flow like blood down the grey granite of Sapun Mountain ("Sapun Mountain", 2011). The painting "Flowers with a Horse" (1988) is very touching, warm and real. For his military services he was awarded the medals "For the Defense of M." (1946), "For the Victory over Germany" (1945), "For the Victory in the Great Patriotic War" (1946) and the orders "For Bravery, Fortitude and Courage", "Patriotic War 2nd degree" (1985). In 1946 he entered the M. Art School, studied under K.G. Dorokhov, then at the Riga School of Applied Arts. In 1947-1953 he studied at the Academy of Arts of the Latvian SSR in Riga under K. Uban, L. Svemp, diploma supervisor - U. Skulme. Since 1956 he lived and worked in the hero city of S.. Since 1956 - worked in the S. art and production workshops. Participant of exhibitions. In 1960 he was accepted to the Union of Artists of the USSR, since 1993 - a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine. Since 2004 - Honored Artist of the Autonomous Republic, Honored Artist of Ukraine. Works are in museums and private collections in Ukraine, R. and European countries. Zinovy Ivanovich Filippov passed away on February 23, 2012.
