About the artist: Soviet Ukrainian painter. Member of the Union of Artists of the Ukrainian SSR. Master portrait. Semenov Alexander Ivanovich was born on September 19, 1921 in the village of Shishkino, Nizhny Novgorod Region (RSFSR). After school, he entered the flying club, and then to the Engels Military Aviation School. Studying at the school, he entered the correspondence three-year courses of the House of Folk Art. Krupskaya in M.. Member of the Second World War. After mobilization from the army in 1946, he began working in the Lviv Union of Artists of the Ukrainian SSR. From 1946 to 1949 he studied at the Lviv Art Institute. In 1967 he moved to the city of Nikolaev. Alexander Semenov is a participant in many regional, republican, all-Ukrainian art exhibitions. The artist’s works are stored in galleries and private collections in Ukraine and abroad. Alexander Ivanovich is known as a portrait painter and landscape painter with an individually expressed manner of fine writing. In paintings and sketches of a spiritual and cosmic orientation, the appearance of which is associated with his unusual dreams, the deep meaning of Being and the meaning of earthly life of a person are visibly felt. Perhaps, it was in connection with this gift of the artist that the clergy turned to him with a request for icon painting of the Nikolaev Cathedral of the Holy Nativity of the Virgin. This work was performed by Alexander Semenov together with his son Oleg, a member of the Union of Artists of Ukraine. Alexander Ivanovich made a list of several more churches in Nikolayevshchina. In 1998, Alexander Semenov created a portrait gallery of the governors-general of Nikolaev and the commanders of the Black Sea Fleet from the time of Potemkin to the October Revolution.
