This oil painting cardboard, titled "Early in the morning at church", the composition is centered around the church, standing prominently against the backdrop of trees and a softly illuminated sky. The church, painted in soft whites and highlighted with touches of yellow on its dome, serves as the focal point, guiding the viewer’s eye upward and inward. Its tall, delicate structure stands against the surrounding landscape, giving the scene a sense of peaceful isolation, as if the church is a quiet retreat from the world. The perspective is slightly elevated, looking down upon the church from a distance, which suggests that the viewer is observing from a nearby hill or higher ground. This elevated viewpoint adds a sense of depth and draws attention to the surrounding nature, particularly the trees on either side of the church, which are rendered in a mixture of deep blues, greens, and purples. These trees frame the church, adding balance to the composition and drawing the viewer’s gaze back toward the building. The soft, diffused light bathes the church and trees, creating a sense of stillness and quiet reverence. The light from the early morning sun reflects off the white church, making it glow in the cool early hours. This delicate light gives the painting a sense of peacefulness and an almost sacred atmosphere, as though the church is bathed in a soft halo of divine light. The greens of the trees, while still darkened by the early morning, are illuminated by the subtle glow, enhancing the depth and complexity of the landscape. The ground around the church is rendered in warm, earthy tones, grounding the scene and adding texture to the otherwise cool color palette of the sky and trees. The sky is rendered with more fluid, softer strokes, giving it a hazy, atmospheric quality that suggests the early morning fog or mist. The reflective quality of the church’s white walls and golden dome is highlighted by the impasto technique, which enhances the brightness and dimensionality of the structure against the darker background. The church, as a symbol of both faith and community, stands as a peaceful beacon in the landscape, offering a place for reflection and connection. The surrounding trees and soft lighting contribute to the sense of a natural sanctuary, where time seems to slow down, and the outside world feels distant.

Ivanyuk Oksana works in the landscape and still life genre. Personal exhibitions: Kyiv, Museum of Ukrainian Heritage; T. Shevchenko National Museum; the diplomatic mission of Ukraine to the USA (California) and others. She has participated in numerous exhibitions both in Ukraine and abroad. The composition is centered on a vast field dotted with traditional haystacks, arranged in a rhythmic, natural pattern. Their rounded, organic forms contrast with the linear elements of the land and distant tree line, creating depth and structure within the painting. The foreground features wild grasses and uneven terrain, leading the viewer’s eye toward the middle ground, where the haystacks rest in a harmonious sequence.

The background consists of a dense autumnal forest painted in golden yellows, deep greens, and hints of warm orange. Above, the sky is depicted in a bold blue, serving as a refreshing counterbalance to the earthy tones below. The combination of warm and cool colors enhances the sense of depth and natural harmony in the landscape.

Color Palette and Use of Light
The artist’s use of color is striking, with a palette dominated by warm, earthy tones, punctuated by cooler blues and greens. The golden hues of the haystacks contrast beautifully with the purple-pink undertones of the field, creating a unique interplay of light and shadow. These unexpected color variations give the painting a dreamlike, impressionistic quality, where the landscape seems to glow with an inner warmth.

The sky, a brilliant azure blue, creates a striking contrast against the golden land below, reinforcing the impression of crisp autumn air. The trees in the background, painted with blended shades of yellow, green, and orange, further emphasize the seasonal transition, capturing the fleeting beauty of fall.

Brushwork and Texture
The painting’s impasto technique adds incredible depth and movement, making the landscape feel almost tangible. Thick, expressive brushstrokes create a textured effect, mimicking the roughness of dried grasses, the softness of the haystacks, and the density of the tree line. The bold application of paint enhances the painting’s impressionistic style, where form and color merge to convey emotion rather than strict realism.

The haystacks are depicted with deliberate, rounded strokes that highlight their solid forms, while the surrounding grass and field are painted with energetic, sweeping motions, giving the impression of movement—perhaps a gentle autumn breeze stirring the dried stalks. The background trees are rendered with a mix of sharp and soft strokes, adding variety and depth to the overall composition.

Mood and Interpretation
"Autumn Haystacks" conveys a sense of warmth, nostalgia, and the peaceful rhythm of rural life. The harvested field, with its scattered haystacks, speaks to the cyclical nature of the seasons—work has been completed, and the land now rests, awaiting winter’s arrival. The golden hues of the landscape, combined with the bright blue sky, evoke the feeling of a perfect autumn day, filled with crisp air and golden sunlight.

The painting also invites contemplation, as the viewer can almost hear the rustling of dried grasses, feel the rough texture of the hay, and imagine the scent of the cooling earth. It captures a timeless moment of simplicity and connection to nature, reminding us of the beauty found in everyday rural scenes.

Conclusion
This artwork is a masterful example of impressionistic rural landscape painting, where bold colors, rich textures, and expressive brushwork combine to create a striking and immersive scene. "Autumn Haystacks" is not just a depiction of a countryside field—it is a celebration of nature’s changing seasons, the labor of the harvest, and the quiet beauty of rural life. Through its dynamic textures and vibrant palette, the painting transports the viewer to an autumnal landscape filled with warmth, depth, and a deep sense of tranquility.
