Ilya Repin (1844–1930) was born in Chuhuiv (today in Ukraine). His early development as an artist was shaped by Ukrainian daily life, culture, and landscapes—an influence that remained integral to his work throughout his career. Though he trained at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St.P., Repin maintained a deep connection to his native roots.
