At the age of one, he was left without a father.\u003cbr\u003eHe graduated from the 6th grade of the school. He received his first drawing lessons from icon painters.\u003cbr\u003eIn 1906, for attending secret meetings and distributing proclamations, Matvey Dontsov was arrested and spent a year and a half in prison.\u003cbr\u003eIn the spring of 1908 he came to work in Kiev. During a visit to an art exhibition, he met with the famous artist and teacher Vladimir Karlovich Menk. With his assistance, he entered the landscape workshop of the Kiev Art College, which he graduated in 1913.\u003cbr\u003eIn 1922, Dontsov M.A. moved to Poltava.
