School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, the second center of artistic education of the Empire, which directed the traditions of the St.P. Academy of Arts to the formation of the M. school of painting [1]. Alexei Kondratyevich Savrasov, who headed the school's landscape workshop, and Vasily Dmitrievich Polenov, who replaced him in this position, immediately became a favorite teacher of students, had a great influence on the aspiring artist. Kozlovsky also wrote his first works in the Polenov genre of lyrical landscape, which can be seen on the example of his painting "On the Volga" in 1888. Together with Kozlovsky, in the class of "landscape painters" under the guidance of Vasily Polenov studied Konstantin Korovin, Isaac an, Mikhail Nesterov, Valentin Serov and other future artists of the M. school. It was from Polenov that the students first heard about the Impressionists and got acquainted with reproductions of paintings by French masters. This acquaintance became significant for the future work of Korovin, Serov, an, Kozlovsky and a number of other artists of the late 19th century. In 1886, after eight years of study, Vladimir Kozlovsky graduated from college with the rank of a non-class artist.

Returning home to Kiev, Kozlovsky was accepted as a member of the Kiev Society for the Encouragement of Arts (1890-1896) and became one of the founders of the so-called "Spring Exhibitions" in Kiev, which were held since 1892 [2]. At the competitions of the Kiev Society for the Encouragement of Artists, Vladimir received the third prize for the painting "Quiet abode" (1892), the second prize for the painting "In the native land" (1893) and, finally, the first prize - for the painting "Noon" (1894) [3] ... In the same 1894, Kozlovsky's painting "Pine Forest" was recognized at the V Exhibition of the Association of South R. Artists (TYURH) in M. [4].
